Our history

Created in 2020, BORDCOTE is a respectful and responsible French children's clothing brand.

The idea is to propose another way of conceiving and buying clothes by moving away from mass consumption and towards a fairer, more qualitative consumption. We thus propose beautiful creations, designed in small series, privileging natural fibers and local work, to meet needs, avoid waste and to last.

Give priority to quality over quantity.

Returning to more responsible consumption and more in line with our values requires effort, we agree. We also sometimes get carried away by the addictive frenzy of fast fashion. Our closets are overflowing with clothes we don't wear and we often complain that we have nothing to wear! We want to do better and offer our children a different version of fashion.

We wanted to get out of this daily emergency that is being imposed on us but which is actually meaningless. This urgency that pushes us to consume more and more and to consume badly.

That's how the need to slow down, to step back and approach fashion differently was born.

The name "BORDCOTE" has a double meaning. In sewing, the "rib-edge" is a finish that allows a clean finish to the cuffs, neck or belt of a garment. It is also a nod to the coastlines, the seaside, from here and elsewhere, which the designer is particularly fond of and where she finds her inspiration.

The story of Bordcote's creator,
Geraldine G.

"At the age of 33, I decided to change the course of my life and return to the land of my childhood, in Saint-Tropez.
Here, close to those I love, I had confidence, even though I had left behind work, housing, friends and even though I didn't know what I was going to do with my new life.
For me, the most important thing was here. A gentler life, a healthier environment and a more present nature. So I put my suitcases there. I gave birth to a beautiful little boy to whom I try to pass on my love of nature, walks along the coast, the sea, the beaches, the vineyards, the forests?
I realized that I had been living for a long time in a kind of ambient turmoil, pushed to the extreme by the media and social networks. I was no longer in control of my purchases, including clothes, among other things. As soon as a child is born, you enter what I call the birthing industry right after coming out of the pregnancy industry. We buy everything we need in a frenzy, not to mention more, because it is for the well-being of our little one. It was only when my son was two years old that I realized that I was no longer in control of anything. I needed to say STOP this frenzy, all this waste and lack of respect for the worker, the material, the planet and the future of our children.

I wondered what kind of fashion habits my child was going to have later on? What behaviours would this new generation adopt and how could I help them to be balanced without being disconnected ?

Slow down and return to a fairer consumption, more in tune with the world and our planet.

That's how I came up with the idea of creating a different children's clothing brand. At the antipodes of fast-fashion and the clothing industry. A local brand that is respectful and responsible for children and their parents..

Couture and haute couture creations, with pure and timeless lines, made in small quantities, some entirely by hand, others by machine, for people who love beautiful pieces and French elegance but who also care about the way they are designed and the positive impact they can have on the world around them.

I imagine pieces that will find their place in our children's dressing room, quality pieces that will be really useful to them on a daily basis and that can be passed on. I love looking for beautiful materials, natural and elegant, seeing them, touching them and then imagining them in such and such a design. »

The choice of partners,
a story of encounters and beautiful people

To find the people who will transform these imaginary pieces into real creations, it was done on instinct. The designer chose to call upon the know-how of local seamstresses, from the Golfe of Saint-Tropez, who shared the same values as her.

If you, too, feel like saying STOP to fast fashion and mass consumption and go back to more quality and less quantity, it is with the greatest pleasure that we invite you to join our community and share your ideas with us in order to improve our creations together and offer the best to our children.
